Solve a Manuscript Mystery at the Escape Room: Game of Tomes on November 18th

You don't need hidden doors and built-in bank vaults to make an escape room great. All you need is a solid plot and a bit of creativity. The Escape Room: Game of Tomes has both. It's being held at a venue that doesn't typically play host to an escape room, the Smith Public Library. But on Saturday, November 18th, the library will transform into a labyrinth of clues and brain teasers.

Here's the situation: the sequel to a world-renowned fantasy series has finally been completed. There's only one problem—the manuscript never made it to the publisher. It was stolen in transit. Achieve hero status in the eyes of fantasy fanatics by recovering the manuscript and returning it to the publisher within an hour. The escape room is free, and you can sign up for a one-hour slot between 2 and 7:30 p.m. The library closes at 5 p.m., so some games will be played after hours. Register online.

Fireside Chicken and Tacos: This Mix of American and Mexican Fare Will Tantalize Your Taste Buds

No meal at Fireside Chicken and Tacos is complete without a trip to the salsa bar. It's stocked with authentic salsas crafted according to co-owner Oscar Espinosa's own recipes, from the mild salsa roja to the extra-fiery habanero salsa. After you order a plate of street tacos, step right up to the salsa bar and embellish them as you like.

The salsa will only serve to accentuate the existing flavors in tacos stuffed with steak, grilled onion, cilantro, and avocado or chicken in red al pastor sauce with pickled red onions, pineapple, and cilantro. Breaded fish, spicy shrimp, and buffalo chicken are a few of the other proteins that star in Fireside's tacos. But you may want to skip the tacos and go for the rotisserie chicken or wings instead. The eatery is just as popular for its poultry as it is for the Mexican street food.

Burn Calories, Then Replace Them With Brisket at the Rib, Rub, Run, and Roll on October 7th

Smoke Smith BBQ, All Sauced Up, and The Sausage King are just a few of the Rockwall-area eateries that will be grilling and smoking meats at this year's Rib, Rub, Run, and Roll. On Saturday, October 7th, you and the rest of Rockwall's barbecue lovers can taste what they've been cooking in downtown Rockwall.

But before you feast, prepare your body by burning some calories. The 10K, 5K, and 1-mile fun run start at 8:30 a.m., taking participants all around Rockwall. After the run, come back to the starting line and enjoy live music, a car show, and, of course, fresh barbecue. Official judges will make most of the calls regarding the best brisket, most tender spare ribs, and perfectly smoked chicken, but the public is invited to cast their vote for the best wings. Buy a package of five tasting tickets and exchange each for a carefully crafted wing in the designated cooking tent, then cast your vote.
